Teen Trips

These trips are a teen’s paradise!! There is a perfect mix of adventure, deep friendships made, connecting with God and witnessing His breathtaking creations, serving and meeting locals, and emotional and mental resilience taught. Our favorite part about these trips is the change we see from the start of the trip to the finish. These trips truly change people.

Testimonials

"Our week-long adventure with the Thomason Family was inspiring and life-changing. Our week was carefully planned to make the most of our time.  We were able to visit underprivileged children in hospitals, orphanages, schools, and small villages. We were given the opportunity to serve and give our time and talents. More important and rewarding than giving service was building connections with people we learned to love as soon as we met them."

"The Thomasons also made sure we didn’t miss out on the fun and adventurous activities Guatemala has to offer. We zip-lined, cliff jumped, climbed a volcano, shopped and ate delicious food. We met together once a day for a leadership training that helped us to reflect on our experiences and make goals for the next day. This was not an experience where you sit back and enjoy the ride. The more effort you put into your time and service, the more you learn and grow. If you are looking for an experience for your family that will provide a vision expanding experience, family bonding, service and adventure all packed into one week, this is trip for you."

"We have been to many places around the world and loved all of them!  However, we always come home feeling like it wasn’t complete…something was missing from our trips.  When we went to Guatemala 🇬🇹 we realized what it was…the humanitarian aspect!  This trip had it all, fun, adventure, sight seeing, and serving. When you really get to know the people where you are visiting and you can serve them you come back fuller than when you left and ready to face the world!  It was eye opening and life changing for our kids and whole family!!  Incredible in every way!"

"Our trip with Live Your Mission and Real Imprints was so much more than just an awesome humanitarian opportunity to serve those who are in need. It was an inflection point in our lives, and in the lives of our children. An opportunity like this is a rare combination of settings that make it particularly poignant. It is the perfect combination of a beautiful adventurous setting, removing yourself from technology and distractions, surrounding yourself with amazing people and examples, and inspirational thoughts and messages that helps create an ideal environment to reset and focus on what is truly important in your life and the lives of your family. I am not exaggerating when I say that we count this trip as a priceless blessing that forever changed our lives."

"My trips to Guatemala have been some of the most formative experiences of my life. At the time of my first trip, I was a young teenager without a clear idea of what was truly important in life. As I served the people of Guatamala, I learned that true joy comes through service and devloping meaningful relationships. These lessons helped me center my life goals around caring for others rather than focusing on myself."

"Our son went to Guatemala on one of these trips and it was life-changing for him.  He didn't want to go and was arguing with me the night before he left saying it was a waste of money. I didn't have high hopes that he would immerse himself in the experience.  I couldn't have been more wrong. He came home a different person.  The whole experience had a profound impact on him.  The Live Your Mission and Real Imprints organizations provided a great opportunity for my son to have a paradigm shift in his personal life.  The experiences that he had while in Guatemala touched his soul and caused him to implement changes in his life to become the person he wants to be.  I am so grateful that he was able to go and for their loving attention, it has made a huge positive impact on my son.  I can't recommend it enough."

"My daughter was able to go to Guatemala with Live Your Mission and Real Imprints and had a wonderful experience.  She struggles with anxiety and the organization was well organized and informative so she knew what to expect, which lessened her anxiety.  She did things that stretched her and helped her see she can do difficult things, like hike to the volcano. We weren't sure that her passport was going to get here in time, it got here the week before, so she was able to go. It tested her in some ways, but she had a wonderful time and learned a lot about herself and that she is more capable then she realized. This is a great organization."

"This was life-changing for my kids! They made great friends, their worldview expanded, they felt the joy of service, and realized they could do hard things. Every penny spent was well worth it!"

"Thank you so much for organizing our trip to Guatemala! It was such an amazing experience, and I'm so gratetu I Was able to go! Ever since I've come home, my whole perspective on life has changed.

I have a greater desire to serve others, and I'm so much more grateful for what I have. Thank you for inspiring me to live my mission and leave my mark. You are
amazing!"

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a typical day look like?

Every day is full. We typically start with breakfast between 7-8am and go hard all day long. There will be a variety of humanitarian projects and experiences, adventure, culture, and team building. You will be tired at the end of each day. We go-go-go!

How old does my child have to be?

14 and older. If a parent is a chaperone there may be an exemption, please reach out if you have questions.

How much is the deposit?

The deposit is nonrefundable, and it is $300.

Is the deposit refundable?

No, the deposit is not refundable. Our trips fill quickly and in order to save your spot, you need to be committed enough to pay a nonrefundable deposit. We understand circumstances change, and unexpected things happen and this can be difficult, so we offer a refund from your remaining balance if done 6 weeks before the trip or sooner, but the $300 deposit is nonrefundable.

What are the vaccination requirements?

Due to requirements ever-changing with COVID, we strongly encourage that you stay up to date on the current requirements. As far as other vaccinations, nothing is required, but there are recommendations from the CDC https://www.cdc.gov/. We know people that aren’t vaccinated that have traveled to Guatemala and some that got every vaccination suggested, the choice is yours.

Do I need a Passport?

Yes!

Do I need a Visa?

You don’t need to do anything prior to arriving. They will stamp your passport with a 3 month visa. You won’t even know it happened.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

No, we will have interpreters that will help with communication. If you do speak Spanish, please let us know!

What if I have a picky eater?

We do not cater to picky eaters, so make sure you bring plenty of snacks. With a large group, we will have 2-3 options for most meals, but in order to have the food ready so it doesn’t take all day, options are limited.

What if I have an allergy or medical condition?

Please advise us of your allergy/medical condition and we will let you know if we can accommodate you. When at all possible, we try to accommodate allergies/medical conditions.

Do we buy our own airfare?

Yes! You are welcome to purchase the flight that best suits your needs. We will let you know when our drivers will be picking the group up and you can arrange your flights accordingly, and arrange an extra hotel stay if needed.

I want my child to help pay for their trip, do you have suggestions for how they can earn money?

Yes! We did the same and it was an incredible experience for them. First, get the word out that they are earning money to go to Guatemala on a mission trip and let people know what they are willing to do. Social media is a great place to get the word out. Some specific ideas for fundraising are, yard work, house cleaning, watching pets, house sitting, babysitting, bake sales, lemonade stands, garage sales, walking dogs, or asking for sponsors from friends and family or businesses. Many people want to be a part of something like this, but not everyone can go, so allowing others to help monetarily is a blessing for many.

I've always wanted to do this, but don't have the time, money, or both, how did your family do it?

We had the same reservations and concerns, but God truly opened doors. If you feel like you should go, but it doesn’t make sense on paper, ask God to open doors and He will. If you want to go, but it doesn’t feel quite right, start saving and preparing and you will know when it’s the right time for your family.

What type of humanitarian work do we do while we're there?

All of our humanitarian work is aimed to help them to help themselves. We focus on basic life-changing things that will empower them. If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime. We are very careful not to come in and “save the day” or bring an abundance of donations to just give. That can cause unhealthy dependence or jealousy in the community. It can also ruin the economy for those working so hard to run a business. We work with locals to find out the needs of the villages and communities and our humanitarian work always revolves around education, health, and inspiring our team and those we serve to live their mission. Some examples are:

1. Helping them become sufficient with food - food towers, chicken coops, etc
2. Helping provide safe water and sufficient water for families and communities.
3. Shelter/Home repairs
4. Ventilation/Cooking improvement in the home - many cook with fires in their homes that have no Ventilation
5.  Installing solar panels for families without light
6. Providing Mental and Physical Health Kits and support
7. Teaching and helping in the schools
8. Teaching adult education classes
9. Donating Angel Gowns to communities and hospitals

Is the volcano hike hard?

Yes! It is uphill for 5 miles to base camp, with an additional 1 mile to summit in the morning if you choose. You start at about 8,000ft elevation and end at about 13,000ft elevation. It’s not for the faint of heart, BUT it is so worth it! You get to see an active volcano erupt if the weather and volcano cooperate. It’s incredible!! One of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for most. For family trips, there is an option to pay extra for a horse to ride up the volcano to base camp. This is not an option for Teen Trips unless there are extenuating circumstances that we have discussed. The horse is about $100 extra.

When will you start contacting us if we sign up for a trip?

We will get a team email going about 3 months before your trip to help everyone prepare and answer your questions.

When should we purchase our flights?

That is completely up to you. You can purchase them early if you find a good deal, or for peace of mind, or you can purchase them after we meet as a team. Whatever is best for you is great!

What should I pack?

We will send out a packing list with everything we recommend you pack.
